30GB Zunes Fails around the world

It seems that a random bug is affecting a bunch, if not every, 30GB Zunes. Real early this morning, a bunch of Zune 30s just stopped working. No official word from Redmond on this one yet but we might have a gadget Y2K going on here. Fan boards and support forums all have the same mantra saying that at 2:00 AM this morning, the Zune 30s reset on their own and doesn’t fully reboot. We’re sure Microsoft will get flooded with angry Zune owners as soon as the phone lines open up for the last time in 2008. More as we get it.

DMFail.com Fails, Twitter To Fix Private Messages

Say goodbye to the fun of reading private Twitter messages sent improperly and gathered on DMFail. Sometime today, Twitter says in an email, they’ll change the way private messages are sent so that you can use either [D + username + message] OR [DM + username + message].
It’s a subtle feature change, but one that will avoid embarrassment for people who’ve accidentally made their private messages public.

Best Buy gets Windows XP and Vista confused

bestbuyadd
“Surf and e-mail with the simplicity of Windows XP”, said the header above the netbook section. That’s a great line; it’s simple and to the point. Thing is, the display of every netbook below the header is showing not XP, but Vista.

Oddly, everyone of the netbook models shown does come with XP by default. All they had to do to catch the error was actually look at one of them, or at least hit up Google Image Search for “default Windows XP desktop

Crappiest Product Ad on Josh’s Blog

Hmm.. Portable Antivirus Device? Great. Let’s have a look at their site: http://ernestosonsllc.googlepages.com/

Wait a second, the one in the picture says 1GB, while the description says 4GB..
And wait it’s hosted on Google Pages? That’s Professional.
Whoa, $74? Here’s Josh’s Deal: For $56, I can get a 32GB USB Stick, plus CalmWin Portable, a open source Anti-Virus solution with:

  • High detection rates for viruses and spyware
  • Regular virus database updates. ClamAV team regularly updates virus databases to include a new virus/variant immediately after it appears
  • Standalone Virus Scanner.

So, don’t get fooled by these people! Look at their address here on Google Maps, it’s a residential area.. So it’s some guy (and his sons?) ripping you off.  So, think before you buy this festive season, and make sure you research first.

$20 Blackberry from the McCain-Palin campaign comes with Secret Emails, Contacts

It’s pretty much common sense that when you’re ditching your old cell phone you want to erase your personal data, contacts and emails — or at least try to. Oh sure, there are plenty of examples of failing to do so, but this one’s rather… shall we say, “special.” Some operatives at Fox 5 in Washington, D.C. booked over to the McCain-Palin campaign headquarters’ yard sale yesterday, and they saw some ultra cheap Blackberrys — just $20 a pop, probably an inventor’s discount — so they picked up a few, undoubtedly thinking they’d make nice holiday gifts. They were kind of surprised to find that, after giving the ‘Berrys some juice, one of them had 50 contacts for “campaign leaders, politicians, lobbyists and journalists” as well as hundreds of emails. When reached for comment, a campaign spokesperson said that “procedures are being put in place to ensure all information is secure,” followed minutes later by a blank email CC’d to his entire address book with the subject line “We’re so screwed.” Read
