Dell confirms shocking truth: Adamo to rival MacBook Air
In a confusing timeline of events that only Charlton Heston could love, Dell confirmed today that it already has touted its soon-to-be-unveiled “Adamo” as a rival to the MacBook Air in a blogvertisement that posed itself as a rumor that Adamo would do just that:
“Rumor has it that Dell is coming out with a computer called Adamo that will rival the MacBook Air. At press time, the company was keeping the product tightly under wraps, but PC users rejoice – word on the street is that something cool is coming your way.”
The adblog appeared on a “luxury internet magazine,” and was noticed by The New York Times Bits Blog, who bounced the copy off Dell, which confirmed it as an ad: “We did this to wake up the personal computing category and create some buzz.” This further confirms (or perhaps pre-confirms) what we’ve heard about Adamo, but we’re looking forward to the actual unveiling of this laptop and forming our own real, factual opinions on the thing. Dell Studio 14 is now available.. in Malaysia
Here’s a fun game that you can play at home: what comes between “Studio XPS 13” and “Studio 15“? If you guessed “Studio 14,” you can count just about as well as those Dell marketing types. Granted, granularity has always been sort of a thing with Dell, so we can’t really harsh on them too much for giving us more options — though this laptop has only popped up at Dell Malaysia so far, so perhaps we’ll be spared the distinction (unlikely). For 3,599 RM (that’s “Malaysian ringgits,” about $1,038 of our boringly “US dollars”) you can score a Core 2 Duo T8100 2.10GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, X3100 integrated graphics, 250GB HDD and a 14.1-inch LED-backlit 1280 x 800 display. Studio XPS 13 now on Dell’s website
Earlier this week Engadget showed you photos of the slick Dell Studio XPS 13, and now it’s popped up on the company’s website — sort of. It’s currently showing among its laptop lineup, but trying to get to the individual product page gives us an error screen. Starting price is $1,406, sandwiched just between the XPS M1330 and M1730. We think it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing the official launch soon. Read

Dell Adamo ultrathin laptop rumors surface
According to the New York Times, Dell may have a little surprise on the way. Based on some wild trademark searches, a tiny bit of digging on the “internet” using a “search engine,” and the lack of eye contact from the company’s VP in charge of consumer sales (Michael Tatelman), there’s a MacBook Air rival beneath all this subterfuge. It seems that the brand name “Adamo” is registered to the computer-maker with a site to match, and somehow the fashion blog (!?) Uptownlife.net came up with this gem: “Rumor has it that Dell is coming out with a computer called Adamo that will rival the MacBook Air.” How they came up with that is anyone’s guess, but apparently the look on Tatelman’s face when asked about it was enough to convince at least one journalist that this is a done deal. Us? Well we’re going to wait and see, but we’re happy to work with Commander Adamo as soon as we see him. Read

ThinkPad W700 surfaces with secondary 10.6-inch LCD
Not that we haven’t seen laptops with multiple screens before, but this is a ThinkPad, people. You know, an all-business, totally not flashy ThinkPad. Hidden deep within a Lenovo Asia-Pacific hardware announcement is something we’d swear was a prank if it were hosted anywhere other than IBM.com, but it looks like the dual-screen W700 is for real. Reportedly, the machine will feature a 17-inch WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) primary display along with a 10.6-inch WXGA (1,280 x 768) secondary panel. Think SideShow, just jacked up on whatever Clemens and McGwire were using. The rest of the specifications are swell but expected, but the tidbits we’re really reaching for (price and availability, naturally) are nowhere to be found. Can you say “want.”?

HP Pavilion dv6 laptops show up online for pre-order
Eagle-eyed Engadget readers have spotted two new listings on JR.com for dv6-series HP Pavilion laptops. The $800 dv6-1030us houses a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400, 320GB HDD, and Bluetooth, while the $1,050 model has a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo P7450, 400GB HDD, 2 firewire ports, and a GeForce 9200M GS (oddly enough, the 1050 model has no mention of Bluetooth capabilities). Both laptops have a 16-inch, 16:9 screen, 4GB RAM, DVD±R/RW, a webcam, 802.11a/g/n and Vista Home Premium 64-Bit. The devices aren’t listed on HP’s US site, although support documents for the dv6 series are. No release dates given, but both models are currently available for pre-order.

ASUS’ 12-inch bamboo laptop gets a price
Whether counting its 23 Eee PCs or 50 plus models of traditional laptops, ASUS isn’t exactly known for its frugality. So seeing yet another press release touting the launch of its bamboo – a renewable material with immense tensile strength rivaling that of many metal alloys — laptops shouldn’t be a surprise. What’s new here, perhaps, is the detail. Now in mass production, these partially biodegradable laptops come with either 11.1- or 12.1-inch, 1,280 x 768 pixel displays, your choice of 3/6/9-cell batteries, and ASUS’ Super Hybrid Engine allowing you to dial down the power when the wails of the Antarctic penguins become too much to bear. The 12.1-incher is the relative powerhouse of the pair offering Vista a ride atop your choice of Intel T9400/P8600/P8400 Core 2 Duo processors, 256MB of NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS graphics, a 320GB hybrid hard drive sporting 256MB of flash, and Intel’s WiMAX / WiFi Link 5100 chipset.
